“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
Matthew 25:40

  • Goals
  • Rules
  • Standings

  1. To collect hygiene supplies for distribution through the Basic Backpack program of the MMLMS’s Ex-Offender Ministry
  2. To create a service-driven event for schools and churches in which to participate
  3. To create working partnerships and lasting relationships between inner-city and suburban/rural Lutheran schools
  • The challenge will run from February 14th through March 14th. This offers schools the opportunity to include Valentine’s Day and National Lutheran Schools Week as logical service-driven events in planning their collection.
  • Each participating school will receive 1 point for each complete hygiene kit. Each kit must contain toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, bar of soap, washcloth, shaving cream, and razor all placed in a one-gallon Ziploc (or similar) bag.
  • We will also be accepting cash donations. Every $10 collected by participating schools will count as 1 point. (Checks should be made out to the Metro Milwaukee Lutheran Mission Society.)
  • Within each participating school, the class collecting the most hygiene kits or the cash equivalent will be awarded a pizza party or ice cream party (school’s choice). The MMLMS will provide $100 to each participating school for this culminating event.
  • There are 12 Lutheran schools within the City of Milwaukee, and each should have a suburban/rural partner. (Partnerships will not be assigned by the MMLMS, but must be sought out by participating schools. We would also like the 12 teams to choose special names.)
  • Once the 12 teams are formed, other churches, social agencies, and schools are welcome to participate. Contact the MMLMS for information.
  • Church members may participate in the collection through their respective schools.
  • We will update our Web site at the end of each week with team totals based on reports from schools submitted each Friday. (Email mail@mmlms.org to report your school’s weekly totals.)
  • The MMLMS will pick up complete kits and verify all counts after March 14th.
  • Among participating teams, the winning pair of schools will split the Mission Award* of $3,500 with $2,000 going to the inner-city school and $1,500 to the suburban/rural school.
  • Prize money ($100 to each participating school and the Mission Award* of $1,500/$2,000) will be awarded during the week of March 21st.

*The Mission Award of $3,500 assumes that we will have 20-30 schools participating. If fewer than 20 schools participate, the Mission Award may be adjusted accordingly. The Mission Award is intended to be used in support of an LCMS mission or ministry, which may include local school programs.

Here are the team standings as of Friday.
